A TOUR OF HER OWN LAUNCHES 2023 LINEUP OF WOMEN’S HISTORY TOURS AND BOOK TALKS
[WASHINGTON, DC January 23rd, 2022] DC-based tourism company A Tour of Her Own (TOHO) launched their 2023 schedule of women’s history programs. The LINEUP consists of live walking tours in Washington, DC as well as virtual tours and monthly book club. The public is invited to participate in more than two dozen programs between January and October 2023, now open for registration. TOHO President Kaitlin Calogera said, “This city is more than statues of men on horses and white marble monuments honoring presidents. Our tours prove that women built America’s past, even though they are less represented in public spaces and their stories are often overlooked.”
The most anticipated addition to The LINEUP this year is the virtual TOHO Book Club, where Calogera will be joined by her co-author Rebecca Grawl to highlight their city guidebook, 111 Places in Women’s History That You Must Not Miss in Washington, DC. The pair wrote in the foreword, “With intention, we designed a guidebook that would promote and rebuild the tourism and hospitality industries. With pride, we showcased sites that would express the character and legacy of our capital city. With respect, we wrote stories that would honor women who broke ceilings and crawled on glass for us.” Calogera noted that TOHO is set up so that tourists can get a virtual look into DC life while local Washingtonians are offered a fresh perspective of their city neighborhoods as seen through a feminist lens.
A Tour Of Her Own is recognized as a community leader both locally and nationally in the tourism industry, having been recognized by Washington City Paper in the category “Best Tour for Out-Of-Towners” as runner up and also receiving the award “Best DC Book” at the 2022 DC State Fair. Since their founding in 2018, TOHO has also established a respected partnership with the National Women’s History Museum.
Supporters of A Tour Of Her Own are encouraged to join the company's membership program or reserve tickets to to public programing. The company also specializes in custom-designed private tours for small or large groups. TOHO emphasizes that their approach to tourism is focused on their community who has been influential in keeping TOHO sustainable as a woman-owned, small business in Washington, DC.
