A Tour Of Her Own continues to grow since our establishment in 2018. As we move into 2024, we are excited to add new team members to our roster.


Tour Guides & Social Media Ambassadors: We are looking for trustworthy tour guides and public history professionals with the knowledge and skill set to deliver one or more of the the following tours on an irregular, part time basis. Prior tour guide experience preferred but not neccesary. All gender identities encouraged to apply. All applicants will receive a complimentary Basic Membership after submitting this form and a resume. All applicants should meet this criteria:

Responsibilities:

- Demonstrates a basic understanding of women’s roles in American History, feminist culture, and movements in Washington, DC and across the globe.

- Provide guided tours of various locations in Washington, DC

- Deliver expressive commentary and stories to enhance the tour experience

- Prioritize excellent customer service and ensure guest satisfaction

- Demonstrate strong communication skills and professionalism at all times

- Possess basic knowledge of DC tourist sites and their historical significance

- Conduct research and develop content for the tours

- Maintain situational awareness and ensure the safety of the tour participants

- Interpret and connect different sites to provide a comprehensive experience

- Communicate effectively through email and other means of communication

- Comfortably engage in public speaking during the tours

- Utilize excellent time management skills to ensure the smooth flow of tours


  1. Step-On Guide: Leads various bus tours of Downtown DC, National Mall, and across all four quadrants of DC and Northern Virginia. We are not looking for drivers. An ideal candidate:

    - Demonstrates a basic understanding of women's roles in American History, feminist culture, and global movements in Washington, DC and worldwide

    - Possesses extensive knowledge of city layout, streets, pick up/drop off locations, and traffic patterns across the city.

    - Has significant experience navigating through the city in a vehicle, ensuring efficient and timely transportation.

    - Proficient in reading maps and utilizing navigation tools to ensure accurate and efficient travel routes.

    - Exhibits exceptional communication skills, effectively coordinating directions with drivers and vendors in a friendly and professional manner.

    - Demonstrates a proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving, adapting to unexpected challenges that may arise during tours.

    - Capable of delivering engaging and expressive commentary in a bus setting, captivating the audience and providing an immersive experience.

    - Possesses a solid foundation of knowledge regarding DC's popular tourist sites and a comprehensive understanding of DC's broader history and urban culture allowing for informative and enriching tours.

    - Compensation: Begins at $40/hr, negotiable, + $500 complimentary TOHO membership and an autographed book of 111 Places in Women’s History. Part-Time, Irregular Basis


  2. Walking Tour Guide: Leads mostly outdoor walking tours of Downtown DC and National Mall

    • Demonstrates a basic understanding of women's roles in American History, feminist culture, and global movements in Washington, DC and worldwide

    • Proficient in American History

    • Possesses knowledge of Downtown DC and/or National Mall tourist sites

    • Capable of effectively interpreting historical information.

    • Skilled at facilitating engaging and meaningful conversations.

    • Personable and friendly in leading groups with a strong emphasis on safety.

    • This position is part-time and irregular

    • Compensation: Starts at $40/hr with negotiable terms. Additional benefits include a complimentary TOHO membership worth $500 and an autographed book titled "111 Places in Women's History."



  3. Black Feminist DC Walking Tour - We are training for our upcoming walking tour being hosted in April in partnership with the National Women’s History Museum. This position is managed soley by A Tour Of Her Own and not by NWHM. Ideal candidate has:

    • Demonstrates an above-average understanding of the intersection of Black history and feminism in particular relationship to local Washington, DC and broader American culture.

    • The candidate should possess experience in delivering social justice-oriented and marginalized history content to diverse audiences.

    • Familiarity with Downtown, DC, Gallery Place, and Pennsylvania Avenue is essential for providing accurate and informative tours.

    • The candidate should be prepared to learn and present existing tour content while also conducting independent research to enhance the tour experience.

    • Availability is required on April 27th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for the upcoming walking tour.

    • This position is currently open for one special event only. There is potential for additional tours or opportunities to be added on an irregular basis in the future.

    • Compensation for this part-time position includes a one time stipend of $250, along with a complimentary TOHO membership valued at $500 and an autographed book titled "111 Places in Women's History."

  4. Social Media Ambassadors

    • Job Location: Remote

    • Job Type: Volunteer // $500 complimentary TOHO Trailblazer Membership

    • We are seeking motivated individuals with excellent communication skills and savvy internet knowledge to serve as TOHO Social Media Ambassadors. We are looking for both local representatives as well as out-of-town experts to help expand our presence across various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.

    • Attend one TOHO tour per month either in DC or virtually, post about them after to let folks know what you liked!

    • Join and post in Women’s Tourism DC Facebook group several times per month.

    • Engage, comment, and share posts that TOHO tags you in.

    • Post publicly from your business or personal page publicly in support of TOHO.

    • Share TOHO posts in your group forums, neighborhood chats, organizations and other areas.

    • This is independent work with guidance from TOHO team.

Application, Interview and Onboarding Process for Job Candidates at A Tour of Her Own:

Phase 1:

  • The candidate is required to submit an application, which includes necessary personal and professional information, through the designated form below provided by A Tour of Her Own.

  • Along with the application, candidates are requested to email their resumes to the designated email address, info@atourofherown.com. The resume can be either basic or detailed, as per the candidate's discretion.

  • The candidate will be alerted of their entry or denial into the next phase.

Phase 2:

  • The candidate will receive an invitation to schedule a 1-on-1 phone call interview with Kaitlin Calogera or a designated interviewer from A Tour of Her Own's team. This interview will provide an opportunity for both parties to discuss the candidate's qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.

Phase 3:

  • Candidates invited into this phase of the process and will be asked to attend a group Zoom meeting to learn about the TOHO Tour Guide Handbook which outlines policies and procedures unique to the company.

  • Prospective guides at this stage will be given the opportunity to shadow a tour. This will involve accompanying an experienced member of the A Tour of Her Own team during an actual tour to gain firsthand experience and insight into the job duties and responsibilities.

Phase 4:

  • All candidates who shadow a tour will be receive an official letter of acceptance outlining either an invitation onto the TOHO team or a dismissal. This process should likely end mid-february - mid-march depending on availability.


Please note that this onboarding process may have some minor variations based on specific circumstances and requirements. The three phases described above provide a general expectation of the process.
